How to put up a BespokeCrete Microcement floating shelf

Purchase fixings & gather tools

    • The wall must be able to take the load of the shelf: solid brick/concrete, or a stud wall with strong studs and suitable fixings. If you are using plasterboard only, you will need specialist fixings or mounting to the studs. These are not provided, and you will need to purchase them separately.
    • Tools needed: level, pencil, tape measure, drill, a drill bit suitable for your wall type, wall plugs/anchors (or screws into studs), screw gun or screwdriver for bracket screws.

Hold up the shelf to the wall and mark the holes of each bracket position on the wall.

Remove a bracket from the shelf. Holding the bracket to the wall, align it with the 2 holes that you have marked on the wall to ensure it is level.

Drill all the holes for the brackets. There are 2 holes per bracket.

Once all the holes have been drilled, insert the correct fixing for your wall types such as a plasterboard raw plug or a masonry raw plug)

Screw your bracket onto the wall.

Please make sure the bracket is the right way up, with the folded steel at the top and the open section of the bracket is facing downwards.

Slide the shelf onto the brackets.

Check the alignment is level and make any adjustments. Please see below.

Once properly fitted, test gently to ensure it is firm.

Adjustments

The screws on the bracket can be loosened and the bracket can be moved up or down.

The thumbscrew on the bracket can adjust the angle at which the bracket sits against the wall.

Please ensure that the thumbscrew is wound in and touching the back plate.

The prong of the bracket can be adjusted left or right.

Load capacity check & weight distribution

    • BespokeCrete states the adjustable floating shelf brackets (used in their shelves) can bear up to 100 kg, as long as the fixings are suitable and can take the same weight amounts.
    • Do not exceed reasonable loads; avoid placing very heavy objects concentrated at the free edge. Distribute load evenly.

Care, Maintenance, and Important Notes

  • Indoor use only: The brackets expose the wood core behind the microcement; exposure to moisture (e.g. outdoors, showers) can compromise waterproofing.
  • Heat use caution: While microcement has good heat resistance, placing it directly over sources of high heat (e.g. fireplaces, wood burners, large radiators) may require checking fire manufacturer’s specifications or ensuring heat does not exceed what the shelf/bracket can tolerate. The shelves are wood internally and NOT non-combustible.
  • Cleaning: Wipe regularly with a soft damp cloth. Use mild, pH‑neutral cleaners. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasives, or scrubbing pads that can damage the sealant.
  • Avoid impact & chips: The microcement finish is durable, but small knocks / sharp edges may chip, especially at edges. Handle with care.
  • Check bracket & wall plugs periodically: Over time, use may loosen screws or plugs, especially if heavy loads are placed or removed often. Check tightness and condition occasionally.
