What is Microcement?

Microcement is a cement based coating that is mixed with fine aggregates, resins and pigments to provide an extremely strong and highly bonded finish.

The Microcement system is applied by hand and consists of primers, base coats, Microcement coats and sealers – generally taking 7 days to apply

Microcement can be applied to a range of surfaces, unlike a traditional poured concrete surface. Once applied, Microcement has a total thickness of 2-3mm. This opens a range of possibilities that have not previously been available and makes it an ideal product for retro fit.

Microcement can be applied to a multitude of surfaces, that is fully waterproof, whilst being heat, scratch and stain resistant. It is a cement and resin hybrid and is great for outside products, such as kitchens or furniture, inside kitchens, bathrooms, showers, baths, sinks, floors and walls.

Microcement can be coated directly over plastered walls, cement board, tile board, MDF, ply, concrete, latex and existing tiles – giving each person the freedom to express their creativity. It does not have the same limitations as concrete and is virtually maintenance free.

How Easy is Microcement to Clean?

Microcement is easy to clean with warm soapy water or a natural plant based cleaner. Harsh and abrasive chemicals should not be used. Forcrete sell a Microcement cleaner should anyone wish to purchase this. Check out our video below of various products applied to Microcement.

How Durable Is MicroCement?

Due to the laminate effect created by the layers applied, along with the cement and resin mix – Microcement is an extremely strong material. It can take up to 21 days to fully harden, however it can be walked on after a day of being completed. We have performed extensive tests on our supplier’s materials and it’s fair to say that the results are quite outstanding. Although we certainly wouldn’t advise you to try this on your completed project, we think the results speak for themselves.

What is MicroCement?

Microcement is a cement and resin hybrid that is applied by hand over several days to create an extremely strong and stunning finish. Microcement can be applied to a multitude of surfaces.

Where Can You Use  MicroCement?

Microcement can be applied to any strong and stable surface. It can be applied over existing tiles allowing you to change the design of your shower rooms or floor’s – a much easier option than having to remove tiles – totally transforming your space. Microcement can be applied to plastered walls to create a stunning feature wall, as well as being applied to wood to create kitchen worktops, kitchen islands, outside kitchens, doors, shelves, baths, sinks,  furniture and much more. See our blog on covering existing tiles.

What are the benefits of a MicroCement worktop?

Microcement is perfect for use in a kitchen environment -totally transforming your kitchen too. Microcement is perfect for area’s with high humidity as it is completely waterproof. Microcement worktops are easy to clean, heat, stain and scratch resistant. We can also craft integrated sinks and draining.

We can apply Microcement to a kitchen worktop on site, creating a completely seamless finish, including a seamless join from worktop to splash back. This is a more expensive option as we would need to attend site for several days. Or a cost effective option, is making Microcement worktops in our workshop and shipping them to you. We are limited to the sizes that we can courier and therefore joins may be needed. Check out our blog on made to measure kitchen worktops.

Is MicroCement waterproof?

Yes – The only brand of Microcement we use (Forcrete) is fully waterproof and every layer in this system is waterproof. Many Microcement’s on the market, rely on the sealer to create a waterproof seal, which is why we only use this brand that we have tried and tested.

Can MicroCement be used outside?

Yes – Microcement is perfect for outside projects. It is fully waterproof making it an incredibly versatile product, suitable for all weather and environments. We craft lots of outside kitchens, bar tops, worktops, outside planters, outside furniture, seating in fire pit area’s and completely bespoke projects.

Are There Different Microcement’s on the market?

Not all Microcement is created equally and sadly there are lots of inferior brands on the market. We only use Forcrete, which is not for sale to the general public and an installer would have to undergo their training to be approved. As an “Elite” installer, we have tried many Microcement products and many rely on the sealer to make it waterproof. Forcrete is fully waterproof with every layer and we believe this is the only one on the market that has this kind of strength! This Microcement can take hot pans straight from the oven – we use it for kitchen worktops, outside kitchens, furniture etc… all with fantastic success.

How Thick Is MicroCement?

Microcement is applied in multiple layers composing of primers, two base coats, two finish coats and sealers to create a laminate effect that totals approximately 2 -3mm thick. This makes Microcement a great option for retrofitting into your home where you may not have the threshold for a screed concrete floor or tiles. Due to the thin nature of Microcement, it is also ideal to cover over outdated tiles, or worktops to give you a modern, sleek design. Check out our video below showing the layer in a Microcement floor.
